If you're bored with replaying the scant few hours of jungle-based frolics in Crysis and Crysis: Warhead, but you're still craving some nano-suited action, then EA has some good news for you. The game publisher is opening up a beta programme for Crysis 2, and anyone potentially has a chance of getting in on it.
We say "chance" because there will be a limited number of places, and you'll need to make sure you're in the right place at the right time.
The official Crysis 2 website (opens in new tab) is currently undergoing maintenance, with everything except the front page saying that it's "offline for a short amount of time for maximum upgrade." However, Ripten (opens in new tab) reports that just before the site went down for maintenance, the site published this teaser about the new beta programme:
"Looking to get your hands on Crysis 2 early? Now is your chance! Early registrations will be tracked, and our first wave of users will have a chance to win a key as and when the Crysis 2 beta takes place. All you need to do is sign up early and one day in the near future you may be receiving a mail with an invite to the game.”
Basically, if you want to be in with a chance of beta-testing Crytek's new city-based shooter, then you'll need to be one of the first obsessive clickers to sign up to the new Crysis 2 site. The site is scheduled to relaunch tomorrow (Saturday 12 June) at 12pm Central European Time (CET), which is 11am in the UK, so set up your virtual tent and start pummelling the F5 key if you want to be in with a chance.
Sadly, that's all the information we have at the moment, and we don't know which platforms the beta will be available for either. The original Crysis was a PC-exclusive, but Crytek has opened the gates to the PS3 and Xbox 360 for Crysis 2.
In the meantime, you can feast your eyes on the E3 teaser trailer for the game here (opens in new tab).
