Following the release of its Promoted Tweets advertising programme, micro-blogging site Twitter has announced plans to introduce Promoted Trends.
The service will allow the web site to sell information about popular Twitter trending topics to marketeers.
Twitter currently pulls in 190 million unique visitors a month, making the site extremely attractive with advertisers, who can use the micro-blogging platform to advertise their products.
Promoted Trends will allow advertisers to book certain trends, making their advertisements available when a particular trending topic is searched, giving the advertisers access to a more precisely targeted audience.
Experts believe that this move will increase Twitter's revenue, as it will be able to promote multiple advertisers all at the same time.
Sean Garrett, Twitter spokesperson explained: “As we have always said, we plan to test different advertising and promotional models in these early stages of our monetization efforts for both user and brand value.”
