Microsoft Xbox 360 Slim On Preorder For £199

Microsoft's refreshed version of the Xbox 360 gaming console, the Slim, has gone on pre-order at Play and HMV for £199.99 including free delivery. This corresponds to the suggested retail price of the device and is likely to fall shortly afterwards.

HMV lists (opens in new tab) the Slim console as being available in more than one month, on the 16th of July for that price before saying that you won't be able to get any discounts.

However, thanks to HMV's PureHMV points, customers may be able to get a number of goodies which can be browsed here.

The other online retailer,, also lists the console as being available on the 16th of July (opens in new tab).

The new Slim console is an improvement on the previous version boosting a bigger hard drive, 802.11n WiFi, native support for the new Kinect peripheral and a quieter gaming experience altogether thanks to an new onboard fan.

At £200, it will be a full £75 cheaper than the Sony Playstation 3 gaming console with an equivalent hard disk drive and just £10 more than the Xbox 360 Elite that comes with a smaller hard disk drive.

It is likely that the price of entry level Xbox 360 consoles, either Elite or Arcade, will fall down over the next few weeks as Microsoft gradually phases out existing gaming consoles.
