It seems as if the new Apple iPhone 4 has been sold out both in the US and in the UK as Apple.com showed phones being shipped in the US from the 2nd of July from as early as 10PM PDT.
Our own attempt to pre-order one online showed that the earliest we can expect an iPhone 4 through the post would have been on the 20th of July, nearly a month after the launch of the device.
The combination of overwhelming customer interest, technical glitches on AT&T's side and severely restricted supply means that the new iPhone 4 is likely to have set a new record for Apple. It should however be possible to buy an iPhone 4G in the UK either from Apple stores or from partner retailers like Best Buy.
AT&T told Gizmodo (opens in new tab) that "Because of the incredible interest in iPhone 4, today [June 15th] was the busiest online sales day in AT&T history. As of Tuesday afternoon, customers who preorder iPhone 4 moving forward will receive their device on June 25 or later, depending on when the order is placed."
