Sony Adds Yahoo Widget Engine To Bravia TVs

Yahoo has extended its partnership with consumer electronics giant Sony to make its Widget Engine available on internet-enabled Sony Bravia televisions in more than 100 countries around the world.

Yahoo's Widget Engine allows consumers to access internet-based Yahoo services such as News, Finance and Sports. The service comes in addition to several other widgets developed using the company's software development kit (SDK), which allow social networking, media, email and gaming.

Jeff Kinder, Senior Vice President of Media Products and Solutions at Yahoo, said (opens in new tab): "Our expanded partnership with Sony increases the number of countries where Yahoo TV Widgets are available by nearly seven-fold, enabling us to connect millions of additional consumers to compelling Internet content and services right on their TV."

Kinder added: “Yahoo is delivering the right content on the right platforms - across mobile, PC, TV, and tablets - ensuring the best experiences for our users, publishers, and developers.”

Yahoo widgets are currently available on internet-enabled televisions offered by Samsung, LG, VIZIO and HiSense.
