Security Firms Take Days To Fix Malware

Recent research conducted by NSS Labs has revealed that security firms take an average of 92.48 hours to tackle the malware threats faced by users every day on the internet.

The results of the study were compiled by analysing security software offered by the 10 most popular internet security software makers.

The focus of the study was to determine the speed of response offered by different security software to "socially engineered or consensual malware threats" surfacing every day.

NSS Labs revealed that 15,000 to 50,000 malware threats emerged on the web every day and that security software vendors, rather than warning their customers immediately, take their time to come up with security patches to address them.

Vendors reviewed by NSS Labs include AVG, Kaspersky, Symantec and Trend Micro.

The report pointed out that security software effectiveness rates ranged from 35 per cent to 88.3 per cent, while average response time ranged from 4.62 hours to 92.48 hours.
