Amazon Revamps Kindle For iPhone E-Book App

Amazon has updated its Kindle for iPhone application, adding support for e-books with audio and video embedded.

The company is offering 13 new e-book titles with audio and video content, priced at $9.99 each.

Amazon reports that the 13 specially designed ebooks include five travel books from author Rick Stevens and publishing company Avalon Travel, a book about bird songs, a book on knitting and a book on the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt.

The new e-book catalogue also features a Beatles guitar book, which teaches aspiring guitarists acoustic versions of famous Fab Four songs.

Speaking to CNet, Bill Newlin, publisher for Avalon Travel, said (opens in new tab): "In the new Kindle Edition with audio/video of Rick Stevens' London, the embedded walking tours allow customers to listen to Rick as they explore the sites of London."

Amazon hopes that writers and publishing houses will make the most of this new feature and release many more interactive, media-rich e-books.

In a statement, Dorothy Nicholls, director for Amazon Kindle, said: "This is just the beginning. We look forward to seeing what authors and publishers create for Kindle customers using the new functionality of the Kindle apps."
