Enterprise networking giant Cisco has selected Emulex Corp's OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapters (UCNAs) to provide 10 Gbps Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) connectivity to its Unified Computing Systems.
Emulex said it would be providing FcoE connectivity to Cisco's Unified Computing B-Series Blade Server platform and Unified Computing C-Series Rack Mount Server platform, as well as Cisco's Nexus family of Unified Fabric Switches.
In a statement, Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development at Emulex said: “The adoption of 10Gb/s Ethernet is enabling network convergence. Working in conjunction with Cisco Unified Computing Solutions and Nexus platforms, Emulex's OneConnect UCNAs are helping customers build next-generation data centre infrastructures that unify their Ethernet and Fibre Channel architectures.”
Daheb added: "Emulex is the first company to announce and ship integrated network convergence at every level of the data centre, from Universal Local Area Network on Motherboards (ULOMs) that provide 'chip-down' network convergence, integrated blade mezzanine cards to reduce I/O footprint, and standard PCI Express adapters that provide new levels of data centre consolidation."
The company hopes that FcoE connectivity will enhance Cisco Unified Fabric and Unified Computing Solutions by significantly reducing installation and maintenance costs and network complexities.
