Microsoft has confirmed that it will stop producing its Kin social networking phone, the Telegraph has reported.
According to the report, Kin One and Kin Two, released in the US in April this year, will not be launched the United Kingdom because of poor sales.
In a statement, Microsoft said: “We have made this decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship Kin in Europe this autumn as planned."
“Additionally we are integrating our Kin team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from Kin into future Windows Phone releases.”
The Kin smartphones, released just two months ago, were criticised for missing many key features and not supporting third-party applications.
Microsoft has said that it will continue to sell the remaining Kin handsets through Verizon Wireless in the US. To aid sales of the devices, Verizon has cut the price of the Kin One smartphone from $129.99 to $29.99, and the Kin Two from $149.99 to $49.99.
