Sony Slashes E-Reader Prices

Sony has joined fellow ebook reader manufacturers Amazon and Barnes & Noble in cutting the price of its e-reader devices.

Entering into the price war initiated by rivals Barnes & Noble and Amazon, Sony has cut the prices of all three of its e-reader models in the United States.

Sony’s lowest priced model, the Reader Pocket Edition is now available at $149.99, down from $169.99.

Its Touch Edition has been lowered from $199.99 to $169.99, and the Daily Edition, the only 3G-ready model, is now available for $299.99 down from $349.99.

Earlier this year Barnes & Noble had cut the price of its 3G Nook e-reader, dropping it from $250 down to $200, and released a cheaper, Wi-Fi only Nook for $150.

On the same day, Amazon slashed the price for its Kindle 2 device from $260 down to $190 and also dropped the price of its Kindle DX from $490 to $380.
