Facebook has signed a deal with Malaysian payment technology company MOL Global, to sell Facebook Credit gift cards in MOL's network of retail outlets.
The service, which will be powered by MOL's AccessPortal, will be available to use in all 500,000 MOL retail stores in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Australia, and New Zealand, Facebook news blog AllFacebook has reported.
Users will be to use the Facebook Credits as virtual money on the social network to purchase applications and games.
Facebook believes that the move will encourage developers and websites to create more content for the platform.
In a statement to news agency AFP, Vaughan Smith, the director of business development in Facebook, said: “What we want to do is create a virtual currency which makes it very simple and straightforward for our users to buy services when they are using games and services on Facebook.”
