HP may have chosen the moniker PalmPad as the next name for its forthcoming WebOS family of devices if a recent trademark filing made by the company to the USPTO is to be believed.
Unsurprisingly enough the domain name Palmpad has already been registered to a "palm pad online services" in Costa Rica, Central America since April 2001 and is not won't expire till April 2012.
The trademark filing shows that HP intends to use the name for the following: Computers, computer hardware, computer software, computer peripherals, portable computers, handheld and mobile computers, PDAs, electronic notepads, mobile digital electronic devices,
Can't see anything to do with smartphones in there although that might be covered by the last term. HP has already mentioned the fact that it plans a tablet device based on WebOS and there are even WebOS printers in the pipeline apparently.
Obviously, the name sounds a lot like Palmpilot which was the first successful product launched by Palm back in the days, one that launched the personal digital assistant era more than a decade ago.
