BT-owned broadband service PlusNet has connected the first UK customer to its 100 Mbps fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband connection.
PlusNet user 'herbiejhopkins' reported on PlusNet's forums that his average download speed was 77Mbps, while the upload speed remained constant at 15 Mbps.
Writing on the company blog, PlusNet wrote: "What will people find to do with 100Mbps? It's hard to say, from an application point of view, what services will make best use of speeds that high. File downloads will benefit of course and the faster upload will really help people that send large files or host services."
PlusNet also said that its next batch of trial FTTP customers will be added to the superfast broadband connection over the next few weeks.
The company said that it had over a dozen people ready to test the connection in the Milton Keynes area and it was looking for more volunteers to try out the service.
