Vodafone has abandoned the production of smartphones based on its Vodafone 360 OS.
The company has said, however, that the platform will remain alive as a dedicated suite of services, rather than being installed on smartphones.
Vodafone 360, which focuses on mobile social networking and applications, was available on Samsung's H1, M1 smartphones and was to be on the company's H2 device.
The Vodafone 360 platform allows users to purchase and download dedicated ringtones and applications for their handsets, as well as allowing them to sync their Facebook and Twitter friends list with their mobile phone contacts list.
In an official statement, Vodafone said: “We have always been clear that Vodafone 360 is about a suite of services, not just about bespoke devices. Our intent was always to provide services across as many handsets as possible on as many platforms.”
The company has reassured customers who have already purchased a Vodafone 360 device that their devices will continue to be supported as normal by Vodafone.
