Amazon has launched the beta version of a new service that will provide users with product recommendations from their Facebook friends, tech news site Tech Crunch reported on Tuesday.
The company has said that the service will allow users to log into their Facebook accounts through Amazon's online store, where they will be able to access a personalised web page where recommended products will be listed on the basis of their own tastes as well as on the preferences of their friends.
The service will also notify users of upcoming friends' birthdays and events, alongside appropriate gift recommendations according to their friends' previous purchases.
The retailer was keen reassure shoppers about the privacy of their online information.
“Amazon will not share information from your account with Facebook. Amazon will not share your purchase history with Facebook. Amazon will not attempt to contact your Facebook friends. Amazon will never post anything to your Facebook Wall without consent," the company said.
The new service has been released for testing in the US only.
