RIM Buys, Hints At BlackBerry Tablet

BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) has purchased the internet domain name, indicating that the the company may soon launch its own tablet device.

According to online domain name data base 'Whois', the company acquired the rights to the domain name on 8 July 2010, with an expiry date set for 8 September 2011.

No evidence has yet been uncovered of the company applying for a trademark with the US Patents and Trademarks Office, Bloomberg reports.

RIM announced a press conference to be held on 3 August, where market analysts are expecting to see the launch of the BlackBerry 9300 slider, the first device to run the company's new BlackBerry OS 6 OS.

With the acquisition of the domain name, analysts are speculating that the company may also be set to unveil its rumoured BlackBerry tablet device.

Market analysts have predicted that around 11 million tablet devices will be shipped by the end of this year, reflecting the growth of the smartphone market after the launch of Apple's first generation iPhone handset.
