Internet Explorer Owns 60.74 Per Cent Of Worldwide Browsing

Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) is the most used web browser in the world, new statistics reported by tech news site PC Mag have revealed.

The new metrics, compiled by web analyst company Net Market Share, show that Microsoft’s IE is used by 60.74 per cent of the total number of internet users globally.

According to the statistics, IE is followed by Mozilla’s Firefox at 22.91 per cent, with users turning to Firefox to use its applications.

Google's Chrome web browser only accounted for 7.16 per cent of internet users across the globe.

Apple’s Safari accounted for 5.09 per cent of users while Opera is used the least of all the surveyed browsers, with only being used by 2.45 per cent of the market.

Compared to Net Market Share's previous survey, IE has lost a lot of its user base to Chrome and Safari - Chrome’s user base has doubled in the last year, while Safari’s share has increased from 4.24 per cent to 5.09 per cent.
