The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is set to be launched by O2 in September and at least one online retailer has started taking preorders on the phone albeit at a rather steep price.
Handtec says that the phone will cost a whopping £341 SIM Free which is a tad expensive to our taste given that the HTC Desire and other recent handsets like the Motorola XT720 do not costs a lot more than that.
Engadget said that the phone will cost around £215 when it launches but did not provide with any source to back up that figure.
The phone will be launched in Q3 according to Sony Ericsson. It will run on Android 1.6 according to Expansys which is a tad disappointing given that by then, Android OS 3.0 will be in beta version.
The website also provides with more details regarding the phone including the fact that it will have a talk time of 5.5 hours and a standby time of around 20 days.
As mentioned yesterday, it will have a very hard time competing against its own siblings like the Xperia X10 Mini and Mini Pro. Interesting also to see the Qualcomm MSM 7227 processor, a 600MHz chip that uses the ageing ARM11 CPU Core and was launched back in February 2009.
