US wireless carrier AT&T has released a new application for Apple's iPhone, designed to allow users to stream videos directly onto their smartphones by using the U-verse DVR system.
The new U-verse DVR application will allow iPhone users to download and watch TV shows. The application will also turn the iPhone into a remote control.
AT&T has said that the streaming features are only available to users that have subscribed to the U300 package or higher.
The company said that the service will run on the Wi-Fi network to downlodad content, not the 3G network.
AT&T, which is approaching the end of its exclusivity contract with Apple, has not said whether the application will work on the iPad. It also did not mention the shows that will be available for streaming and download.
In a statement to PC Mag, David Christopher, chief marketing officer at AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, said: “We're making it possible for you to watch TV shows on your iPhone at no extra charge. It's just one more valuable and innovative feature available on U-verse TV.”
