Nintendo's Wii has become the fastest selling games console in US history.
The company has sold over 30 million units in just 45 months since its US launch.
The Japanese gaming giant said in a statement that its popular Wii games console, which offers motion gaming, had surpassed the 30 million units mark in the US. Nintendo said that its console had sold faster that the PlayStation 2 from Sony.
Analysts believe that Wii is on its way to become the world's most popular games console, with Nintendo claiming in its end-quarter report card that the company had sold 74 million Wii units wordwide as of June 2010.
Sony's PlayStation 2 is currently the world's most sold games console, selling 145 million units in 10 years.
In a statement, Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing, said: “More than any other video game system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences. This milestone is another reminder that people want fun games they can play with others -- all at a value-minded price.”
