O2 Secures Pay Deal With CWU

The UK Communication Workers Union (CWU) has secured a two year pay deal for O2 employees following seven months of continuous negotiation and discussion.

Member of CWU’s staff working for Spanish-owned network service provider Telefonica O2 will come together to vote for pay increase in 2010 by 2.5 per cent of their existing salary and 2.75 per cent in the year 2011, tech news site Computing reported on Tuesday.

"This is undoubtedly the best deal we could achieve through negotiation. As a two-year deal it provides stability to both staff and the company and we hope that members will vote to accept this offer," said Andy Kerr, deputy general of the CWU in a statement on the union's website.

The CWU represents around 3,000 staff at O2, working across all fields, including customer care, retail, marketing and engineering services sectors.

CWU has also closed a pay deal for BT employees. The employees will see their wages rise by 9.3 per cent over the next three years.
