Microsoft has released a new set of tools for users wishing to migrate to an SQL Server from MySQL, Access, Oracle and Sybase.
The software release contains 4 free-for-download tools and are a part of the Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) initiative, in which the company aims to offer secure and easy migration to the company's SQL Server.
Writing on the the Technet blog, the company wrote: “The new tool converts or migrates MySQL control statements, cursors, DML statements, stored functions, stored procedures, tables, transactions, triggers and views,”
According to Microsoft, the SQL Server Migration Assistant for MySQL v1.0 is aimed at users on MySQL 4.1 and higher, and offers them a chance to easily migrate to almost any edition of SQL Server, such as SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Azure.
The SQL Server Migration Assistant for Sybase v4.2 supports Sybase ASE version 11.9 or higher and allows customers to migrate to any edition of SQL Server except SQL Azure.
