Virgin Media will launch the Alcatel VM202 handset for a mere £39.99 on pay as you go, a price that includes £10 credit.
The GPRS-capable phone which is presented as a stylish, functional and entertaining addition to Virgin Mobile's PAYG range, will be available exclusively to the MVNO in a fluorescent dazzle pink colour.
The VM2020 - which is on sale here - has a small QVGA colour screen with a keypad and a slide out QWERTY keyboard, a microSD card reader (with a 1GB microSD card), Facebook, Twitter, Opera Mini and other web-oriented applications.
Alcatel felt that it was sensible to include a VGA camera (300,000 pixels) on top of an MP3 player, a 3.5mm earphone jack and a FM radio with RDS.
Note that the £10 PAYG credit also gives you 300 free texts and a £15 top up gives you unlimited internet as well; the handset will be available at a later stage to other mobile operators as well.
The Alcatel Mobile brand, which is now owned by Hong Kong-based TCT Mobile international, is squarely focused on the very low end of the market.
