Google has updated its official iPhone application by introducing push notifications for the iOS versions of Gmail and Google Calendar.
Users will now be able to have notifications pushed through to their smartphones whenever they receive a new e-mail on Gmail, or a meeting reminder via Google Calendar.
The company said: “Now Google Mobile App can help with push notifications from your Google account to your iPhone -- an icon badge shows you’ve got new mail in Gmail, and Google Calendar event reminders appear right on your home screen.”
Users will also be able to choose to activate push notifications for only one of the two services if they wish to do so, the company said via blog post on the official Google Mobile blog.
Google has also introduced a new search function for the iPhone application, which will allow users to receive information even before they finish typing the search query.
The company explains that “when looking for flight info, weather, stock quotes or currency conversion you’ll see answers before you even hit ‘Search’.”
