Microsoft's highly anticipated Kinect motion gaming device will not ship with voice command functionality when it is launched in the UK on 10 November.
According to MCV, Microsoft's marketing manager for Xbox Live EMEA Robin Burrowes announced during the Gamescom gaming conference in Berlin, that the company will remotely switch on the voice control features some time in the future.
Voice controls and chat were two of the most intriguing functions shown off by Microsoft during the unveiling of its Kinect. Microsoft demonstrated that users could be able to switch between media and dashboard functions by simply speaking to the device.
The motion gaming peripheral is also set to come with sophisticated voice recognition technology, when the voice command functionality is activated in the future.
Microsoft also confirmed to MCV that Kinect will not ship with voice chat server Video Kinect at the time of the launch. This feature will also be offered at an unspecified later date.
