Microsoft Corporation has announced a new Bing search application dedicated to Verizon customers using Android-based smartphones.
“The app homepage features Bing image of the day, complete with clickable hotspots that you can explore and discover related trivia. This works especially well when looking for 'Instant answers’ like movies, stock quotes, flight status and local listings.” said Andy Chu, writing for the Bing Community blog for Mobile.
Earlier in 2009, Microsoft launched a Bing App version for Apple Inc.’s iPhone; the Android specific Bing app will allow Microsoft to divert users from Google Search to its own platform (assuming that they try it in the first place).
For a while now, Bing has been growing at the expense of Google Search and Microsoft is trying hard to capitalise on the shifting trend.
The current move gives an option to smartphone users who are Android-lovers but do not have much interest in Google’s search engine.
