Apple may have acquired the High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology used in its iOS 4.1 operating system.
Apple news site Mac Rumours has reported that the highly publicised HDR photography feature in iOS 4.1 is not a product of the Cupertino-based consumer electronics manufacturer, but was bought.
"Based on evidence we've compiled, we believe that Apple may have purchased a small Cambridge, UK-based company known as Immense for its expertise dealing with just this technology," Mac Rumours writes.
The company vanished from social networking platforms like Facebook and Twitter and shut down its own website in July 2010 when investors, Braveheart Ventures, announced that Immense had been acquired.
Braveheart Ventures did not reveal any further details.
Immense's director of engineering is now working at Apple, while all former Immense executives are current Apple employees.
The HDR technology uses 'eye-fidelity' to form captured normal, underexposed and overexposed images into one picture.
Apple CEO labelled the technology as exclusive to the iPhone 4.
