Dixons has announced plans to launch its own netbook application store in collaboration with chip maker Intel.
The Currys PC World App Store will be based on the AppUp platform, which was recently introduced by Intel at its Intel Developers Forum summit.
The Currys PC World App Store will be launched on 1 November, targeted specifically towards UK laptop and netbook users.
Initially, the app store will be offered as a download, but will be later incorporated into all Advent computers sold by Dixons.
In a statement, Gary Hearns, senior category manager of content at Dixons, said: “Pretty key for us is how we bring life to technology [and] AppUp is crucial to this, be it a netbook or be it a laptop.”
The AppUp store, which was earlier available only in beta, went live during the IDF. The platform currently offers around 800 applications, out which, around 30 per cent are said to be free.
Intel said that the AppUp platform currently offered consumer centric applications, but will soon branch out to business applications if things look promising.
