Apple is said to be developing a new version of its iPad tablet device, despite many fans across the globe still waiting to get their hands on the original model.
According to a report published by tech news site Digi Times, the Cupertino-based consumer electronics giant is testing and validating hardware components for the second generation iPad model.
Taiwanese component suppliers for the iPad, including the touch screen panel and glass, TPK Touch Solutions, Chimei Innolux, Cando, and Wintek, have confirmed that they are validating parts for iPad 2 with Apple, which may hit the US market in the first quarter of next year, tech news site THINQ reports
"The device will feature a 9.7-inch multi-touch display of much the same specification as the existing model. Apple will amaze with an ultra-high quality 'Retina Display' like that featured on the iPhone 4," the suppliers said.
The suppliers have also indicated that Apple has began testing the ultra thin glass-based touch panels for the iPad 2.
