According to the bean estimators who compile the annual Forbes 400 list, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is worth more than Apple’s Steve Jobs.
Zuckerberg's estimated fortune has leapt by almost $5 billion since last year's list of the 400 richest Americans was compiled. His 25 per cent share of Facebook is now thought to be worth around $6.9 billion, which puts him at number 35 on the Forbes list. Last year the poor chap was languishing in 135th place.
Steve Jobs, despite guiding Apple to what surely must rank as one of the company's best years ever, only managed to add a billion dollars or so to his net worth, which is now thought to amount to a measly $6.1 billion putting him in 42nd place in the wealth chart.
Top of the heap is Bill Gates of course, who is estimated to have earned $4 billion over the past year, nudging his net worth up to $54 billion, despite his best efforts to give barrow-loads of it away. Investor Warren Buffet remains in second place with Oracle's Larry Ellison in third place again, with his $27 billion.
Other rich techies in the list include Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at joint 11th with an estimated $15 billion each and Steve Ballmer and Michael Dell who occupy 15th and 16th spots with some $14 billion and $13.1 billion stuffed under their respective mattresses.
