Reports are suggesting that Amazon is preparing its own Android-based tablet computer and an application store for Android gadgets.
According to tech news website Electronista the US-based online retail giant will soon launch a tablet computer working on Google’s Android operating system and an application store alongside Google’s Android Marketplace, labelled as V Cast App Store.
“But the Kindle runs Amazon’s own software — presumably this new tablet would run Android (for the app store to work). Others have speculated about this possibility in the past,” said Tech Crunch which first reported the news.
The developers will have to shell out $99 as a fee to gain access to the Amazon app store.
The web retail company is already struggling to maintain a competitive market share against Apple’s highly popular tablet device iPad with its dedicated e-reader device Kindle.
Although the news has not been confirmed by Amazon, reports suggests that the company may make an announcement as early as next week.
