Microsoft has claimed that its Kinect motion sensing peripheral will have the biggest hardware sales launch in history.
In an interview with Edge, Microsoft Game Studio's corporate vice president Phil Spencer said that the new gaming peripheral will have the biggest hardware launch ever - bigger than Xbox 360's.
Microsoft's comments come after several retailers confirmed to MCV that pre-orders for Kinect were on the rise.
Spencer said: “So this, for us, is bigger than Xbox launch, bigger than 360 launch - this is a big deal for us. How many units are we going to sell? We're completely goaled in investing as if this were the biggest console launch ever, and that's our expectation.”
Earlier, Microsoft had claimed that Kinect sales will "blow away" the Apple iPad, citing strong pre-orders as the driving factor.
Rival Sony is touting its PS Move motion gaming device as an "evergreen product", claiming that even though pre-orders are an important factor, Move was not a pre-order product like Halo or the World of Warcraft game series.
