Twitter has finally overtaken social networking platform MySpace in terms unique monthly visitors in the US market.
According to data released by online monitoring firm comScore, as of August 2010, the micro blogging site Twitter had 96 million unique visitors, compared to the 95 million users who visited MySpace.
comScore revealed that Twitter had grown by 76 per cent in the last year, whereas MySpace has declined by 17 per cent.
Although Twitter was adjudged to be the third most popular social networking platform on the list, it was also found to be the 50th most visited site on the list of web properties.
That list was topped by Yahoo-owned sites, followed by Google and Microsoft sites in the second and third position respectively, with Facebook coming in fourth place.
Facebook was found to be the number one social network on the Web, with around 598 million unique monthly visitors. The social networking giant was found to have grown by 54 per cent in the past year.
