Skype arrives on Android

VoIP outfit, Skype has announced the release of Skype for Android OS, version 2.1 or above.

The software client is downloadable for free from the Android Market or through Skype's mobile page here.

Skype for Android enables users to make free Skype-to-Skype calls to other users anywhere in the world, over WiFi or mobile data connection (GPRS, EDGE, 3G), using Skype’s SILK codec.

It supports Skype's instant messaging service too, as well as allowing users to receive calls on their Skype online number.

Mark Douglas, Skype's product manager for Android said: "More and more people are using Skype to do things together when apart. We are pleased that Skype is now available on three of the most popular mobile platforms today: Android, iOS and Symbian”
