A Hewlett Packard Veep has confirmed the company is preparing to launch smartphones based on Palm's webOS operating system in early 2011.
The computer maker acquired the OS when it snaffled up ailing smartphone maker Palm in a $1.2 billion deal earlier this year.
HP said in a recent conference call it was planning a webOS device for next year. It didn't then say what sort of device that would be, leading to much speculation that it was stick webOS in a tablet
Now, according to a Reuters report, HP's senior vice president Eric Cador confirmed the firm will launch its first phones early next year.
Speaking at the Canalys Channels Forum 2010 conference in Barcelona, Cador said: “You will see us coming early next year with new phones.”
Cador alluded to the acquisition of webOS," saying Palm's intellectual property was "extremely fundamental" to the plan.
