Microsoft has announced that its has sold 483,989 units of its Xbox 360 gaming console in September.
The disclosure comes after market research firm NDP decided not to release its monthly report, leaving it to the three big platform owners to reveal their console sales.
Microsoft was the first to release its statistics, with rivals Sony and Nintendo preferring to stay silent on the matter.
The software giant's Aaron Greenberg tweeted that the console had sold 483,989 units in September, citing a 37 per cent increase when compared to last September.
The company said in a statement: “Xbox 360 enters the holiday season with four consecutive months as the #1 console in the US, with 484,000 units sold during the month, up 37 percent from last September, a stark comparison to the other console platform.”
Microsoft has revealed that Halo: Reach has shifted 3.3 million units in the first month of its launch. The video game had raked in $200 million within the first 24 hours of its launch.
