Microsoft has released the beta version of WikiBhasha, a new multi-lingual content creation tool for popular online encyclopaedia Wikipedia.
According to the company, the new tool is designed to allow content creators on Wikipedia to import articles written in English and translate them into other languages supported by the tool.
Apart from the translation feature, WikiBhasha will also allow Wikipedia contributors to create content from scratch in languages other than English.
The company will be working with the Wikimedia Foundation to offer content creation support for Arabic, German, Hindi, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. The name of the new tool has been derived from the Hindi and Sanskrit term 'Bhasha' which means 'language'.
P. Anandan, managing director, Microsoft Research India, said in statement to TC Magazine: “The WikiBhasha beta holds the promise of enabling easy creation of content in multiple languages, and also of generating a large body of parallel language data for researchers to work on to further machine translation technology.”
