Starbucks is launching its own Starbucks Digital Network (SDN), set to offer free and exclusive content to customers visiting its 6,800 US outlets.
The network is designed to allow customers accessing the free Wi-Fi connection at Starbucks retail outlets to get exclusive web content designed to enhance their Starbucks experience.
SDN will offer six channels to its customers, which include News, Entertainment, Wellness, Business and Careers, My Neighborhood and a personalised Starbucks channel. The news channel will provide news content from USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, but without the pay walls.
The network website has been created by Yahoo, which will also power the search and provide content for the platform.
Starbucks's Vice President of Digital Ventures Adam Brotman, said in a statement to Mashable: “They're so strong in the three areas we knew we needed help with -- technology, content and search. They seemed excited by the local and unique nature of the Starbucks Digital Network.”
