A number of major TV networks in the US have blocked some of their most popular TV shows from airing on Google TV.
Although no official reason for the block have been provided, it seems that major US broadcasters like ABC, CBS and NBC have blocked their shows on Google TV due to piracy concerns.
According to Electronista, Google has optimised the search function on Google TV that hides search results for pirated TV shows. However, companies like Disney are not satisfied with Google's current anti-piracy measures.
Another reason being cited by The Wall Street Journal is that the broadcasters fear that Google TV will cannibalise the existing broadcasting business.
The broadcasters want more assurance from Google that they will be duly compensated even if their existing business gets cannibalised by Google TV.
A Google spokesperson told the WSJ: “Google TV enables access to all the Web content you already get today on your phone and PC, but it is ultimately the content owners' choice to restrict their fans from accessing their content on the platform.”
