Google's Android Market app store now houses over 100,000 apps.
The company announced reaching the milestone by simply tweeting through its Android Developers account on micro blogging platform Twitter.
“One hundred thousand apps in Android Market,” the company tweeted.
Google's Android platform has been surging ahead in the smartphone market, threatening to surpass Apple's iOS and RIM BlackBerry in its stride.
However, that particular feat may take some time to complete, as Apple's App Store is way ahead of Google's when it comes to the number of apps it houses.
Recently released iOS metrics peg the total number of apps on the App Store at 280,000.
The App Store offers applications for a number of iOS devices including the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad.
Google would need to find a method to round-up hundreds of Android variations floating in the market under one common banner. The problem poised by fragmentation is one of the key hurdles that Google needs to overcome.
