Tesco has released a barcode scanning tool for its Groceries iPhone app, designed to allow customers to scan any item online and add it to their shopping carts.
According to The Guardian, Tesco is targeting the in-app barcode scanner at busy parents and professionals who don't have the time to browse through whole shopping lists.
Users will be able to scan and add any product, be it yoghurt or a new food eaten at a friend's house, so that they could get what they want in as short a time span as possible.
The company said that the barcode scanner was designed to recognise and add any item available at Tesco supermarkets.
“The barcode scanner will make online ordering much quicker for those that have an iPhone. Customers can simply scan the barcode of grocery products stocked by Tesco whilst on the go and add them into their online shopping basket,” Laura Wade-Gery, chief executive of Tesco.com, said in a statement to The Guardian.
