Popular video playing application VLC (otherwise known as Videolan) will be available for the iPhone and iPod Touch platform after having been launched last month on the Apple iPad tablet.
The open source app, which is regularly listed as one of the most useful pieces of software on ANY platform, will be compatible with the iPhone 4 and the 3GS, paving the way for countless hours of viewing pleasure, regardless of the filetype.
Owners of "recent iPod Touch" (and iPad) media players will also be amongst the lucky ones. Apart from improved compatibility, version 1.1.0 adds better decoding optimizations for (much) enhanced performance, better file management with a useful, native "delete" feature that bypasses iTunes.
Early tests carried out by Macworld show that the app holds more promises than the original iPad version which was criticised for not being able to display video altogether.
