Google has said that it will give away 10,000 Google TV devices to developers over the next few weeks to encourage them to start developing applications for the platform.
Google TV is aimed at merging the web with the television, allowing users to stream online video content, use and install applications, surf the web and watch cable TV from one common platform.
The company said that it also distributed free Google TV devices during an Adobe conference held this week in Los Angeles.
Amanda Surya of Google wrote on a blog post: “We are focusing our efforts on empowering the developers of the world to make Google TV an even better experience, through websites that have been built with the TV screen in mind.”
Google has developed the Google TV device in partnership with Sony, Intel and Logitech. The product comes with a set top box, a keyboard and a mouse designed to work with a Google TV powered television set.
