YouView chairman Kip Meek has shown interest in the London Olympics 2012 and local TV news services for the upcoming TV-on demand service.
He also revealed that the organisation was in the "very early stage discussions" with US TV studios to source their content or full channels for the service.
UK cultural minister Jeremy Hunt is very eager to deliver news services via traditional television and Meek believes that YouView will manage to do just that.
“I do not believe YouView will solve all the challenges, but it will bring down the costs. It offers by far the best chance of local TV services making some money or at least washing their faces. We have not majored on this [benefit] yet but it will be very, very important,” Meek said.
Meek also believes that the London Olympics 2012 will be critical for the success of YouView in the UK. The service will be launched next year and its effectiveness will be tested once the games begin.
