Internet telephony firm Skype is to offer free access to public Wifi services across the UK to celebrate the first Internet Week Europe.
It isn't clear from the announcement on Skype's blog whether the offer will apply to every publicly-accessible hotspot in the UK. Skype has revenue-sharing deals in place with a number of public WiFi network operators, so it may be restricted to these.
Even if it is, Skype's existing partners include big players such as BT OpenZone, The Cloud and Spectrum Interactive, so the offer should provide pretty extensive national coverage.
Internet Week Europe is a week-long celebration of internet culture that will include more than 80 events in London, plus Skype's offer of t'Internet fer nowt across the whole country.
David-Michel Davies, co-chairman of the festival, welcomed Skype's freebie internet offer, saying: "Internet Week Europe is all about the impact that the web has on our daily lives, from business to entertainment. What better way to celebrate that impact than partnering with Skype to make the Internet more accessible than ever?"
