Security software maker ESET has released a new range of Mac anti-virus software for consumers and businesses.
The launch follows Sophos releasing its own free anti-malware software for the Mac.
The ESET Cybersecurity for Mac anti-virus tool, targeted at consumers, is designed to offer protection against viruses and other threats across the Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.
The product is also capable of detecting viruses in USB sticks and other removable media, and has been programmed not to disrupt full screen mode with notifications.
The ESET NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition for Mac OS X is specifically designed for addressing the security threats faced by businesses. The tool will allow IT administrators to manage all the protected computer platforms, be it Linux, Mac or Windows, from a single console.
Anton Zajac, ESET's chief executive officer, said in a statement: “ESET has been developing consumer and business training content and we are excited to be creating a new class of product that fuses these two essential elements of cybersecurity into a user-friendly solution.”
