Phones4U will give free WiFi to everyone who buys a tablet, either the Samsung Galaxy Tab or the Commtiva N700 from them, in partnership with Freerunner.
The exclusive offer, known as "Free Wi-Fi forever", will allow users to access over 1,000 Freerunner hotspots around the UK in coffee shops, pubs, retail outlets, sports venues and local community buildings.
Users will have to register once; their device will connect automatically whenever they will be within range. There is also a free "hotspot finder" app that allows Freerunner users to discover the mobile hotspots more easily. Freerunner runs a distributed architecture which ensures that "faster ping, upload and download"
While this is a welcomed addon, the fact remains that Freerunner is a relatively small player in the Wi-Fi Hotspot market in the UK, one that is currently determined by BT Openzone.
Phones4U sells the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab for £499.95 on its own and for £199.99 when purchased with a Samsung Europa smartphone on a £45 per month tariff (on a two year contract).
Russell Braterman, marketing director at Phones4u, said in a statement that "Tablet devices are an exciting development out of the mobile phone market. Just as our customers love to have the latest handsets, tablets will be high on must-have Xmas present lists this year."
