Sony Ericsson has quietly released a software update for the Xperia X10 smartphone on the 1st of November, one which brings Android OS 2.1 (Eclair).
Some of the new features of the upgrade - which can be downloaded here - include HD video recording with continuous autofocus, a new backup and restore application with extended content backup, five homescreens and a social phonebook which shows when friends are online (ed : wasn't that what Timescape was supposed to do?
The download does not require Sony Ericsson's PC companion and other X10 (Mini and Mini Pro) will also get Android OS 2.1.
In addition, there's a post on Sony Ericsson's Product blog (dated on the 5th of November) which points to more Xperia Kits updated with generic kits being shipped in a number of countries and operator kits in countries like France and Australia amongst others - a tad confusing indeed.
Unfortunately, the upgrade will not bring multitouch to the X10 line although there are hacks in the wild (as reported by Intomobile) that allows it to be done.
