iOS 4.2 launch developers get call to arms

Apple has given the first official indication that iOS4.2 upgrade is imminent.

In an e-mail sent to App Developers, Apple says, "iOS 4.2 will soon be in the hands of millions of customers around the world. Make sure that your iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch apps incorporate all the exciting features in iOS 4.2."

The highly-anticipated upgrade brings the iPad into line with other iDevices adding multi-tasking, Game Centre, Airprint and Airplay to the prodable PC.

Users of older iPhones will also get some love as the release is also expected to offer a significant increase in performance for the long-in-the-tooth iPhone 3G, which was somewhat hobbled by the release of iOS4.0, and not made much better by the 4.1 point release.

Depending on which rumour you care to believe, iOS4.2 could be released later today or any time between now and November 12th, which is the latest date anyone is prepared to offer.

We'll be hitting the 'update' button in iTunes every few minutes until it happens and will bring you the news as soon as we have it.
