BT has released a new 3D movie on-demand service to be clubbed with its BT Vision IPTV service.
The company said that it had struck a deal with NBC Universal to show every single 3D movie title released by the studio for the next 12 months.
Subscribers to the BT Vision service, that combines Freeview TV channels with BT's own video on-demand services, will be able to order 3D movies to watch on their 3D enabled television sets.
The company has also partnered with Vertigo to air StreetDance, the first UK film to be shot entirely in 3D. The movie features dance group Diversity, which won Britain's Got Talent 2009 and Britain's Got Talent finalists Flawless. It also features the Street Dance Champions.
StreetDance will be among the very first 3D films to be shown on the service, available for £5.99. BT will also offer Step Up 3D at similar subscription rates.
Marc Watson, CEO of BT Vision, said in a statement: “Now Vision viewers can experience films at home in fantastic 3D, thanks to these new deals. This is just the start of 3D on Vision - viewers can expect to hear much more from us in the coming months.”
